2012 Cameron Handicap Field & Barriers

September 17th, 2012

The 2012 Cameron Handicap (1500m) final field and barrier draw has been released with a strong field of ten horses set to run on Wednesday September 19.

The field is headlined by Patinack galloper Tagus.

The eight-year-old gelding won the Group 3 Tramway Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago, his first win since the Listed Melbourne Cup Day Plate (1800m) in 2010.

The son of Encosta de Lago is a 1500m specialist who has won four out of six starts over the distance.

Gai Waterhouse-trained Kontiki Park finished second in the Tramway Stakes and will be looking to avenge the loss in the Cameron Handicap.

The seven-year-old gelding also ran a place in the 2011 Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) but is yet to breakthrough for a maiden Group level victory.

He will be joined in the race by stable mate Western Symbol who is having his first run of the spring.

2011 Villiers Stakes winner Monton finished a disappointing eighth in the Tramway Stakes but is noted for improving significantly in the third run of a campaign.

The Ron Quinton trained-gelding has drawn barrier two and will be ridden by leading jockey Hugh Bowman.

Also backing-up from the Tramway Stakes are Rolling Pin and Darci Be Good.

The betting market for the Cameron Handicap will be up at bookmaker.com.au shortly.

Home of the $400 bonus bet offer, bookmaker.com.au is fully Australian owned and has a wide range of products to suit all your spring racing needs.
