2010 Newcastle Cameron Handicap Final Field & Preview

September 13th, 2010

This Wednesday Newcastle Racecourse will host a bumper mid-week meeting as part of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival featuring an elite line up of events including the $150,000 Group 3 Patinack Farm Cameron Handicap (1300m).

The 2010 Cameron Handicap has attracted a final field of 13 quality gallopers making for a thrilling race to enjoy a punt on through Ladbrokes.com.au.

In the Cameron Handicap odds comparison, there are a number of standout horses that are sure to draw plenty of money including Gai Waterhouse’s highly rated Rock Kingdom.

The five-year-old gelding has run in two promising barrier trials this spring finishing second in both.

Despite drawing wide with barrier 12 and allocated a hefty 58.5kg, Rock Kingdom should start as one of the top fancies as Waterhouse attempts her fourth win in the sprint feature.

Concorde Stakes Runners Backing up in Cameron Handicap:

  • Trusting (3rd)
  • McClintock (5th)
  • Prince Braeman (6th)

Three horses are backing up from a run in the Concorde Stakes at Rosehill on August 28, including six-year-old McClintock also out wide in barrier 11.

The Mark de Montfort-trained King Cugat gelding is sure to improve second-up on Wednesday and is due to be ridden by Glyn Schofield.

Concorde Stakes third placegetter Trusting is also backing up in the Cameron Handicap, the consistent John Thompson-trained four-year-old due to start mid-field from barrier eight.

Peter Snowden is set to start his improving Lonhro gelding Pinwheel in the Cameron Handicap, the five-year-old showing plenty of potential when running second in the Listed Show Country Quality (1200m) last month.

Pinwheel will again face off against Show Country winner Kenny’s World on Wednesday, drawn ideally in barrier three as they seek successive wins.

The other headline race at Newcastle on Wednesday is the Group 3 Spring Stakes (1600m) where Ilovethiscity looks hard to beat.

Then on Thursday the Newcastle Carnival festivities continue with the running of the Group 3 Newcastle Gold Cup (2300m).
